Richard Cale of Aqua Essentials has successfully made the journey from back bedroom hobbyist to warehouse and national online supplier of specialist aqua products.
Richard works on the development of his enterprise with Business Mentors South West (BMSW), a regional business mentoring organisation who, as part of their services, introduce mentors supported by the British Bankers’ Association to growing businesses in the South West.
“ I had reached a fork in the road in terms of the direction for my business development. I saw potential all around me but had no experience in taking a business further. I approached BMSW on recommendation from a business associate who had successfully worked with one of their mentoring team. I was introduced to a mentor, Eddie, who is part of the BBA and BMSW mentoring service.. Eddie has been enormously helpful in driving my thinking on taking the business forward and especially so in developing a strategy for its financing. I have not had to actively manage a relationship with a financier to date as my business has grown organically and for the most part financed its own growth but it is likely to be very different now as I implement my new strategies which involve my own branded products. I am feeling more confident in making critical decisions about my business and how it will sustainably and securely grow with financial partners – and with help from my mentors –but with me firmly at the helm ! “
