Entrepreneur Exchange: supporting start-ups in Sheffield

Sheffield city region’s Entrepreneur Exchange has nurtured more than 100 new or recently started businesses over the past 12 months, but one of the more unusual requests was from a local indie band with a detailed business plan.

The Entrepreneur Exchange, which is managed by Business & Education South Yorkshire, matches new business start-ups with more experienced entrepreneurs who give practical advice and support in the early stages of a new venture.

Figures show that new start-ups supported in this way have a far stronger chance of becoming established businesses, which often go on to create new employment opportunities in the area.

Jim Lawson, of the Entrepreneur Exchange, says: “We have built up a network of 250 committed entrepreneurs who are willing to pass on the benefit of their experience to others who are just setting out on their entrepreneurial journey. This support has proved to be invaluable and is helping to increase the enterprise culture and the number of successful, sustainable new businesses in Sheffield.”
