Mentor matching system

A good mentoring organisation will have a mentor matching process which takes account of the needs and priorities of all parties. The organisation also publishes their criteria.

Examples of best practice include:

  • Matching based on skills and experience, needs of the client, geography, availability, and potential personality match
  • 1-1 interviews
  • Matching spreadsheet/database for recording contact details / meeting dates / mentor experience / notes / mentee details
  • Using profiles to give mentors/ees a choice
  • Initial meeting “chaperoned” to understand expectations and experience –  decide whether/how to take forward from there
